  • Patients who are undergoing chemotherapy and or radiation therapy within 6 months.

Before your appointment:

  • Book your Botox/Dysport/filler/chemical peel at least 2-3 weeks before this treatment.
  • If possible, come to your appointment with a clean washed face without make-up. If you cannot come with a washed face, please arrive 15 minutes early to wash your face and let it dry before your scheduled appointment time. I have hypoallergenic facial wash on-site.
  • DO NOT schedule a massage, facial, permanent make-up, or lash appointment on the same day of your treatment.
  • If you are on antibiotics for any reason, schedule your treatment 1 week after you completed them and are infection free.
  • Discontinue retinols 7 days prior to treatment if appropriate.
  • Schedule laser treatments 6 weeks before or after this treatment if doing the same area.
  • Avoid sun exposure 24 hours before and after your appointment time.
  • Avoid aspirin (any product containing acetylsalicylic acid, such as Excedrin), vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, and other dietary supplements including: ginkgo, evening primrose oil, garlic, feverfew, and ginseng for 2 weeks. Aspirin can be continued if it is prescribed.
  • Avoid ibuprofen (e.g., Advil, Motrin) and alcohol for 2 days prior to treatment.
  • If you are prone to herpetic outbreaks (cold sores/Herpes simplex), please inform me 1 week prior to your appointment time, and the Medical Director can recommend you appropriate prescription/supplement to decrease an outbreak risk prior to treatment.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily of SPF 30 or higher for 24 hours prior to treatment and resume 24 hours after treatment.
  • The use of Arnica Montana (available at health food stores) may help with bruising. It is available both topically (as a gel/cream) or orally. You can start this 4 days prior to your treatment if you desire.

Post-care recommendations:

  • Post-care treatment mask or hyaluronic acid (medical grade) is recommended for optimal results. You may use this immediately after this treatment and again the following day.
  • Expect your skin to feel sun-burned and hot for up to 3 days. Your skin will feel tight and tiny red dots are to be expected for up to 9 days post-treatment.
  • BE GENTLE. Avoid massaging, scrubbing, rubbing, and applying pressure to the treatment area(s) for 7 days.
  • Avoid direct high heat (blow dryer, sun exposure, sauna, steam room, very hot shower, hot Yoga, strenuous exercise, etc) for 24 hours after treatment.
  • Do not wash or get your treated skin wet for 8 hours after treatment.
  • Do not expose the treated area to chlorinated water for 48 hours after treatment (pools, hot tubs).
  • Avoid NSAIDs (ibuprofen, Aleve, naproxen, aspirin) the day of your treatment and 7 days after your PRP treatment (if you had this added to your Hydra Needle micro-infusion), for they interfere with the PRP effectiveness, which will make your treatment less effective and increase bruising/bleeding risk. Never stop a prescribed blood thinner without your primary care provider’s clearance.
  • If you experience discomfort, you can use ice or take Tylenol as directed in its package.
  • Do not drink alcohol for at least 3 days after treatment to decrease bruising/bleeding and improve healing and hence results.
  • Avoid sun exposure to your face (or area treated) for at least 2 weeks. Always wear a zinc-containing sunscreen with a SFP > 30 and wear protective clothing (hat with a large brim, sunglasses, umbrella). The sun causes damage to your skin, even with 1 minute or 2 of exposure, making your PRP treatment results less effective. It can also cause discoloration of the treated areas that may be permanent.
  • Make-up is not recommended immediately after treatment, but you can gently apply makeup 24-48 hours after. Please do not wash your face for at least 8 hours.
  • Do not use scrubs, waxes, chemical peels, laser treatments, exfoliants, retinols, alpha-hydroxy acids, bleaching creams, micro-needling, or any abrasive treatment for 2 weeks. You can use gentle skincare products the following 7 days.
  • No facials, facial massages, or laser treatments for 2 weeks afterward; most facials, chemical peels, laser, and light treatments may be done prior to the treatment but not for 2 weeks after the treatment.
  • On day 4 to 5, the skin typically feels very dry. You will be tempted to exfoliate. DO NOT!!!! You can use moisturizer and skincare as soon as day 2. Test a small area of your skin before using any skin care products. If the skin burns, listen to your skin; and wait another day. Whenever your face feels tight, apply Aquaphor or Silver Gel (over-the-counter gels). You may also apply grapeseed oil.
  • By day 7, skin is usually healed and returning to normal. Sometimes it may take a little longer.
  • Do not pick, peel, or exfoliate for 7 days post-treatment. Do not use a Clarisonic or any type of exfoliating brushes or tools for 7 days. Avoid tanning beds 5 days before and after treatment.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise for 72 hours post-treatment.
  • Do not sleep on your face for 48 hours after treatment, and it is recommended to sleep with your head elevated for 2 days to help decrease swelling if you had PRP facial injections added to your treatment appointment.
  • MOST PATIENTS NEED MULTIPLE treatments to achieve optimal results and will require maintenance treatments to fight the nonstop aging progression.
  • Remember that your body requires time to rebuild the treated area tissue, and while some patients might see the results immediately, others may need days or weeks to see results. It is possible that some patients will not see any results from the recommended series of treatment, and this is unpredictable.
  • Please clean anything that may come in contact with your face (phones, glasses) with alcohol pads and change your pillowcase tonight.  Please keep your face or treatment area(s) as clean as possible to lessen breakouts and reduce your risk of infection to the treated area(s).

For best results, Karla recommends a dermaplaning treatment 1 to 2 weeks before your Hydra Needle micro-infusion

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a safe, non-invasive treatment, that is performed using a small surgical blade to manually remove 3-4 weeks of dry, dead surface skin cells as well as vellus hair.

Who can benefit from Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is recommended to treat uneven skin tone, appearance of large pores, dry skin, rough skin, fine lines and unwanted facial hair. Treating the skin in this manner helps to improve a smoother texture, a clear complexion and absorption of products. It is also very beneficial for boosting the production of collagen and elastin and skin rejuvenation. Many patients are often concerned that the hair will grow back heavier and darker after Dermaplaning; this is not the case. Hair will grow back at the same rate and texture as before the treatment within 4 – 6 weeks.

When should you schedule your treatment?

Dermaplaning can be done as often as every two weeks, although it is usually done when vellus hair starts to grow back, which is generally in one month’s time. Dermaplaning may be recommended to prepare the skin for enzymes, hydrafacials, and chemical peels because it enhances the effectiveness of other skincare treatments by providing deeper product penetration.

Preparing for your Dermaplaning Treatment:

  • Discontinue all manual (scrubs, clarisonic, resurfacing pads) and chemical (salicylic, glycolic, retinol, lactic acid etc) exfoliators for one week prior to your scheduled dermaplaning treatment. No shaving/waxing one week prior to Dermaplaning treatments.
  • If you have any prescription topicals, it is recommended to discontinue the use of those for one week prior to your treatment.
  • If you are prone to herpetic outbreaks (cold sores/Herpes simplex), please inform me, and I can recommend you appropriate prescription/supplement to decrease an outbreak risk prior to treatments.
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily of SPF 30 or higher for one week prior to treatment.
  • Wait 7 days after receiving Botox or Dermal Fillers to receive Dermaplaning treatments.

Post Care Treatment Instructions:

  • Your skin may appear slightly red and inflamed
  • Your skin might be slightly sensitive
  • Avoid exercise and sweating for 24 hours post treatment (reduces irritation)
  • Discontinue the use of all exfoliants (manual or chemical) for 10 days post treatment
  • Keep treated skin moisturized morning and night
  • Avoid rubbing, picking, and scrubbing your skin post procedure, for it could lead to scarring
  • Avoid facial waxing for 7 days post treatment
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily of SPF 30 or higher for at least one-week post treatment
  • Avoid chlorine for 24 hours
  • Avoid Dermal Fillers or Botox for 2 to 4 weeks based on area
